Delta State Office I of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), has presented the Product Identification Scheme (PIS) certification to a total of 100 companies operating in Delta State.
Coordinator, SON Delta State Office 1, Egbo Nnenne, said the initiative, held yesterday at the Federal Secretariat complex, Asaba is part of ongoing efforts to promote compliance with national and international standards, enhance product quality and ensure consumer safety and satisfaction.”
She said the programme provides a platform to engage stakeholders across various sectors, clarify the benefits of certification and outline the procedures for accessing SON’s certification services.”
The Delta State Government was represented by Secretary to State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu. Standing in for the SSG was the Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mr. Samuel Oligida via the Functioning Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. AnthoniaAnyafulu.
Anyafulu noted that the number of companies who passed the SON assessment test demonstrates that Delta is now a hub of business and investments in line with the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State Governor.
In a lecture titled “Driving Quality and Compliance through Standards and Certification”, presented by Mr. Ikwebe Ernest Daniel (PSO), he enlightened the beneficiaries on the PIS, among sundry topics in standards and certification, saying that “the PIS is for products without standard and does not meet the SON MANCAP requirement.”
However, he clarified that sachet water has “standard but does not meet MANCAP requirement, hence the sachet water companies, were presented with the PIS certification.”
Dignitaries in attendance included the State Director of the National Orientation Agency, (NOA), Mrs. Tracy Ikolomi, representative of the DG of Delta State Water Sector Regulatory Commission, Mrs. Josephine Ayomike, Director Of Administration, Delta State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Nwabueze Kennedy and Mr. Uzoamaka Julius who spoke on behalf of Association of Super Market Owners, among others.
