100 Olomu Indigenes Adopted Into Contributory Health Scheme

AS part of continued efforts to deepen inclusivity and widen access to healthcare insurance by the state, Delta State Contributory Health Com­mission (DSCHC), 100 new enrollees were recently adopted into the scheme via the Indigent Enrollee Adoption programme of the commission.

The new enrollees, who were adopted from two dif­ferent local government areas, with 50 enrollees from Olomu kingdom in Ughelli South and 50 enrollees from Otogor kingdom in Ughelli North Council, were spon­sored by Olorogun Ejiro Dumasi, under the adoption programme at a premium of N7,000 per individual to access healthcare for a year.

In his remarks, the Director-General of the Commis­sion, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta thanked the sponsor of the enrollees, Chief Dumasi for the noble gesture, while calling on other persons of means to emulate the spirit of collective responsibility exhibited by Chief Dumasi.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the sponsor for this act of collective responsibility. He is setting a worthy example for others to follow, because collective responsibility enriches the people, fosters coopera­tion, builds trust, altruism and positive change in our communities”. “I am therefore appealing to our sons and daughters who are well-to-do either at home or in the Diaspora to adopt this initiative to enable indi­gent persons receive access to healthcare, regardless of the harsh economic climate prevailing across the country. He also expressed delight that people were beginning to key into the objectives of the commis­sion, stating that it was fulfilling the mandate given by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure that every Deltan, irrespective of their location, had access to healthcare services.

Sponsor of the initiative, Olorogun Ejiro Dumasi, speaking via his representative, Hon Sylvester Avworo said he was happy to give back to his people, especially during these hard times. “This act is just me reciprocat­ing the love that my people have shown me over the years. I am not doing it with anything attached or in hopes for payback in the future. I am also hoping this would spur others to give back to our people ”, he said.

He also used the opportunity to thank the State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori for the scheme as it was a practical way to ensure that people had access to quality healthcare in the state. Earlier, the Monarch of Olomu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Ovie Macaulay Ovbagbedia, Uhurhie-Osadjere II, Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, thanked the sponsor for adopting the initiative, while expressing happiness that his kingdom was among those being keyed into the scheme.
