The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 44-year-old tailor, Usman Abubakar Shaba, for allegedly causing the death of Usman Hamed.
He was arraigned at the Ikeja High Court before Honourable Justice Ogala where the defendant was charged with one count of manslaughter.
The charge alleged that Usman Abubakar Shaba, 44 years old, on February 20, 2023, at about 7:30 am, caused the death of Usman Hamed by beating him severally and violently pressing his body down.
According to the prosecution counsel, O.A. Azeez, the alleged offence of manslaughter contravenes Section 224 of the Criminal Law, page 617, volume 3, of the Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant’s charge read, “Usman Abubakar Shaba on February 20, 2023, at about 7:30 am, at Number 12 Odusanya Street, Agege Lagos, caused the death of Usman Hamed by beating him severally and pressing his body down.”
The court had the charges translated from English into Hausa to ensure that the defendant understood them. The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
