A 74-year-old woman, identified as Mrs. Alice Memeh from Owa Alizomor in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, has been brutally murdered by an unidentified assailant.
Memeh, a farmer and trader, was killed while returning from her farm on Thursday, 21 November. According to her eldest son, Mr. Sunday Memeh, his mother’s death was at the hands of unknown attackers.
The incident reportedly occurred around midday when Mrs. Memeh failed to return home after leaving for her farm that morning. Concerned family members began searching for her when her absence raised alarm bells, particularly in light of previous reports of insecurity, including kidnappings, in the area. As the hours passed without any contact from Mrs. Memeh, family members organised a search party to locate her. Tragically, she was discovered lying lifeless in a pool of blood on her return journey from the farm, having been attacked by the assailants. Reports suggest that she was struck from behind while riding her motorcycle, a mere distance from where she had set off earlier in the day.
The incident has sparked outrage and confusion among residents, who described Mrs. Memeh as a gentle and kind woman. Community members are questioning the motive behind such a brutal attack on a defenceless individual. The matter has been reported to the Owa Oyibu Divisional Police Headquarters, where investigations are ongoing. The victim’s body has been taken to a mortuary for further examination.
