Capacity Building: DTSG Trains Staff On Team Building, Leadership Skills At ASCON In Badagry

Participants from the Delta State Ministry of Information at the five-day training seminar on Team Building and Leadership Skills at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Topo-Badagry, Lagos State, have promised to add value and innovation towards the achievement of the state government’s MORE agenda.

Reiterating the importance of the capacity building of staff in management positions in the public service, the Director of the Leadership Development Studies Department of ASCON, Mr. Aderimpe, said the training was aimed at enhancing leadership skills and expertise as well as management competence for improved results.

Aderimpe, while declaring the training open, enjoined participants to be attentive as everyday workplace scenarios would be addressed, adding that ASCON has seasoned facilitators in management needed in capacity building and excellence in the public service.

The training sessions covered various topics including an overview of leadership and team building, team leadership requirements, leadership and emotional intelligence, conflict management and resolution techniques in teamwork, effective communication skills, leadership and interpersonal relationship skills.

The training modules also covered leadership strategies for maintaining team spirit, team problem-solving and decision-making, functional roles of team members and syndicate exercises.According to the participants, the training has improved their problem-solving and decision-making abilities as well as equipped them with competencies to implement policies of government efficiently, promising that the impact of the training would be felt in their work outcomes. The participants applauded the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; the Commissioner for information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, and the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Mrs.  Theresa Oliko, for approval and release of funds needed for the training, as the training was by “Opportunities for All Deltans” component of the government’s MORE agenda.

They praised the initiative, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn from experienced administrators and appealed for more staff to undertake similar training.

The team building and leadership skills had participants from Kogi, Nasarawa and Delta states.
