Ugoani Of Okpanam Petitions Police Over Sale Of St. Mulumba School Land

…Says Involvement Of Highly Placed Indigenes Despicable

THE Ugoani Okpanam Kingdom in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, His Royal Majesty Dr Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu, has alerted the Police on the illegal sales of St Mulumba Secondary School land and has therefore, taken immediate step to put a stop to the action.

In a petition to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Okpanam Police Division, dated August 12, 2024, titled “Illegal Sale of St Mulumba Secondary School Land, Okpanam”, the Ugoani complained in the bitterest terms that, some elements have conspired to effect the sale of portions of the land housing the school, adding that the land was gifted by the Okpanam Community to the Catholic Mission for the building of St Mulumba Secondary Commercial School in 1965.

Copy of the petition, signed by the Ugoani himself was sent to all Chiefs of Okpanam and the President General, Okpanam Youth Association.

Emphasizing that the gesture of Okpanam in donating the land to the Catholic Mission was purely for educational and Missionary purposes, not for commercial use, the Ugoani expressed deep concern that Okpanam Community is presently witnessing a situation whereby portions of the said school land is being converted by some unscrupulous elements for commercial gains.

In order to halt the encroachment and prevent the action of the intruders from causing an unforseen unpleasant consequence, the Monarch said, the Palace of the Ugoani advised the Okpanam Youth Organization to stop every activity at the project site, and report same to the office of the D.P.O.

More worrisome, the Ugoani said, was the allegation that some high profile persons in Okpanam Kingdom have been fingered in the sale of the said land, adding that, this is most despicable and unfortunate”.

He, therefore, requested the Police to meticulously investigate, and establish the identity of the person(s) masterminding the clandestine land deal in the school, with a view to prevent any crisis in Okpanam Kingdom.
