BY SAM DUVWODE

More than 700 persons have benefited from Odoziani/Ezinne free medical outreach program for elderly people.

The outreach program, Tagged: “Your Health, Our Mission”, was held on Sunday at Ukwuani-Ibabu Community, Ndokwa West local government area and attended by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme. The programme saw the old and the young. some heavily supported aged men and women who attended the program and patiently attended to by a team of medical personnels.

Speaking at the occasion, the wife of the Delta State Deputy Governor,  Ezinne Catherine Onyeme, who initiated the program disclosed that the medical outreach program was designed to take quality medical care to the grassroot, especially to those who might not have access to medical facilities.

Ezinne Onyeme noted that the desire to take the medical outreach to the grassroot was borne out the experience she undergo during her surgical operation, adding that it was God that spared her life.

According to her: “I want to thank God for today for the fair weather. I went for a surgery operation, which I believe a lot of people went through butcouldn’t make it out of the theatre. I went through it but God saw me throughout the whole procedure”.

“During the surgical process, I said God, if you are able to see me through, I will come to your house and thank you and as well use a day such as this to also reach out to those at the grassroots and do free medical treatment for them”.

“So when I returned, I decided to give thanks and praises to God for saving my life by reaching out to those that are not privilege to access the hospital for one treatment or the other. At least God gave me the privilege and God gave me the resources to go for the surgical operation. But seeing most of them here, they might not have such resources to do it. So, this free medical outreach is part of my saying God thank you for all you have done for me”.

“The number here, we are looking at over 700 persons to be treated. We have eyes section, and about 9 different ailments to be treated. The team of doctors are here testing for malaria, high blood pressure, ulcer, diabetes and there are other cases that our team of doctors are taking care of”.

Ezinne Onyeme, use the occasion to urge the people at the grassroots and Deltans at large to always take their health serious by going for regular check and seek medical advice.

She said; “I want to advise our people at the grassroot and all Deltans to always check themselves when their body is telling them that something is wrong with their system. They should always visit the hospital for check-up, this is because the earlier they discovered what their ailment is, the better. Our people say, prevention is better than cure. If they go on time to check their status, they will be able to know their problem and tackle it before it gets worse because they might not have the resources to do it”.

“I really want to take this program stage by stage. This first stage is for the elderly ones. The next one will be December this year and the target will be for the youths”.

A Consultant Ophthalmologist of the General Hospital Okwe, Dr. (Mrs) Aghogho Akpe, who led a team of other medical personnel while speaking to newsmen noted that, most of the services rendered ranges from the Octomology services, with full eye-care medical team, Organic nurses, that were attending to those with eyes issues.

She noted that a lot of people that came have eye issues, some with glucoma, others with irreversible blindless, while others being examined by other doctors have diabetes, high blood pressure, low blood sugar, ulcer as well as malaria among others and they were treated and provided with drugs.

An elderly man from Iselegu, Dikuocha Uche and lady Odaley from Amai, who spoke to newsmen among other beneficiaries, expressed their appreciation to the wife of the Deputy Governor for her kind gesture towards initiating the free medical outreach program.

They prayed God to continue to bless the deputy governor and his wife for remembering those at the grassroot through program of this nature.

He called on Christians to always remember to show appreciation to God when He do something great for them.

According to him; “Many people always forget to return to God and show appreciation for things He has done for them, even when God miraculously deliver them and show them Mercy, they lack the attitude of appreciation”.

“We should always thanks God for his provision, promotion and lifting us up. We should talk about the glorious work of God. The wife of the Deputy Governor today, has come to show gratitude to God for the deliverance and good things He has done for her. She has come to thank ‘God for preserving her life. When God bless us, we should remember to thank him”, he said.
