LANDLORDS and other residents of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State have been called upon to rise up to the challenge of insecurity currently bedeviling the area.
The call was made by the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr Jerry Ehiwarior, during an interactive meeting with the leadership of Ika Landlords/Landladies Association in his office at Agbor.
While noting that insecurity had become a major challenge to the people of Ika South Local Government Area, the Chairman advised landlords in the area to be more circumspect in admitting tenants to their facilities, as a way of curbing criminal activities in the various communities in the area.
“The landlords and landladies have very important roles to play to support the government and security agencies in our bid to rid our LGA of criminal elements. The support of everybody is needed. We all are aware of the depth of the problem. So, our collective efforts and comitment are needed to surmount the challenge. My administration is ready and willing to stand by our people to ensure we overcome this menace. But we must work together to defeat this evil,” he stated.
He also advised the association to liaise with the traditional rulers in Ikaland for effective actions against social ills going on in the area.
On the issue of sanitation, Engr. Ehiwarior said residents of Ika South local government area should ensure their environments were always kept clean, adding that, “the weekly Thursday morning sanitation exercise is to make our people imbibe the culture of keeping their environment neat at all time. We must therefore, take the exercise seriously”
He commended members of the association for their proactive disposition to issues that concern residents of Ikaland, stressing that they had done well in projecting and protecting the interest of residents.
The Chairman also applauded them for standing firm in support of the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, throughout his tenure, and appealed that they extend the same level of effective support to his administration and the state government to be able to achieve his vision for the LGA.
