Public Water Supply Returns To Utagba Ogbe

RESIDENTS of Utagba Ogbe in Kwale, the headquarters of Ndokwa West Local Government Area will soon have access to potable water courtesy of renewed efforts of the Delta State Government.

According to the Zonal Manager of Delta State Water Corporation in Kwale, Engr. Efe Emejor, the long-awaited water supply would be operational this week, following the successful rehabilitation of the town’s water installations.

In an interview with The Pointer in Kwale, Emejor, who was on-site to oversee the ongoing work, revealed that the first phase of the rehabilitation has been completed. This phase involved replacing the old asbestos pipelines with UPVC pipes, a key upgrade that sets the stage for delivering clean water to residents.

He further revealed that the repairs to the head works, generators and pumps have already been finalized, making it possible to distribute 150,000 gallons of water to consumers once the system is fully operational.

When asked about the next step, Engr. Emejor explained that the second phase of the project will involve extending pipelines to areas of the town that were not initially covered.

He attributed the previous dilapidation of the water infrastructure to pipe damage and leaks along the trunk lines running beneath the roads.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to providing a consistent water supply, Engr. Emejor called for residents’ cooperation, particularly in paying water bills once meters are installed.

Emejor stressed that timely payments will encourage further investment in water projects across Delta State, reminding everyone that “water is life, and it is costly.”

He also praised the strong working relationship between his team and the local community, particularly commending the President General of Utagba Ogbe, Chief Theophilus Adoh, for his tireless involvement in initiating the water project rehabilitation and ensuring that the work proceeded in a safe and secure environment.
