THE Chairman of Ika North East Local Government, Hon. Monday Odigwe, has pledged his administration’s plan to intensify efforts in combating insecurity challenges that the people living in the area are daily confronted with.
Hon. Odigwe made the pledge while speaking to newsmen after the 24th annual Ogwa Ika gathering in Igbodo.
The annual event, which was organized by the Onu Ika Group, focused its major discussions on “Insecurity, Election and Poverty in Ika Land”, and the means of improving the lives of people living in the area.
According to Hon. Odigwe, although security is a complex issue, with the support of royal fathers, security agencies and collective cooperation of the entire public, insecurity in the area could be reduced to the barest minimum. He stated that insecurity which includes; arm robbery, kidnapping for ransom, raping among other forms of criminalities in the area have continue to create fear in the minds of the public particularly the farmers in the villages, whom he said are afraid of going to their various farms for fear of being kidnapped.
The situation, he said, had continued to cause inflation, hunger and poverty in the life of the people
While assuring that his administration will continue to prioritize the security of lives and the welfare of the residents of Ika North East, Odigwe noted that security strategies were not what he could discuss in public, adding that his administration will collaborate with his counterpart in Ika South and all the security agencies to guarantee the safety of lives of the people in the area.
Speaking further, Hon. Odigwe called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to work in synergy with the government and the people in fighting the menace.
He further charged those (Traditional Rulers) to collaborate and build a united front between Communities across Ika land to check the state of insecurity.
