Jubilations As DESOPADEC Commences Operations In Agbor

SEQUEL to the directive of the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission (DESOPADEC), in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment to mitigate, protect, and prevent any negative effects of the impending floods as predicted by NIMET, DESOPADEC has swung into action to carry out the assignment.

At Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area, there was jubilation among the people as the Commission led by the Chairman, Olorogun John Nani, and the Managing Director, Hon. Festus Ochonogor, rolled out its heavy equipment and trucks for the exercise.

Blocked waterways in the metropolis were opened and drains were distilled for free water flow whenever it rains. From Olikeze to Denbar junction to Obi Ikechukwu and Palace areas, various dump sites, especially the major ones at the Benin-Agbor Expressway, were cleared. Major drains were also cleaned in Ika North East local government area.

In an interview, the Commissioner, representing Ika Ethnic Nationality on the Board of DESOPADEC, Hon. Cordelia Ayangwu said they were working under the instructions of Governor Oborevwori to ensure that the two local government areas of Ika South and Ika North East were cleaned and made free from floods.

She said the Abavomarket,  a source of revenue to both the local and state governments, has cut off due to erosion and called on the Federal Government to do something about it.

Earlier while welcoming the team to his office, the Chairman of Ika South, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior commended them for the good work done in the area and disclosed that he had declared every Thursday of the week for environmental sanitation.
