The Delta State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko, has commended the efforts of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the immediate past Governor, Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa for their dedication to maintaining excellence in the state’s public service.
He made this commendation, yesterday, while inaugurating the 20th edition of the Seven Weekend Senior Management Course in Asaba, Delta State capital.
During his address, Bayoko emphasized the importance of consistent training and capacity-building initiatives, which he described as vital to the efficient and effective functioning of the public service.
“Since its inception in 2004, this training programme has been instrumental in ensuring that our civil and public service remains at the forefront of management innovation.
“Our goal is simply to equip you with cutting-edge management techniques and to nurture your acumen so that you align with globally accepted best practices,” Bayoko said.
He called on the participants to take the course seriously, emphasizing that their performance in the course would not only impact their careers but also the overall efficiency and success of the Delta State civil service.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Head of Service, Mr Patrick Ojeblenu, highlighted that this year’s course has enrolled 250 participants from various officer cadres within the service. He pointed out that the course aims to prepare them for the challenges of senior management roles.
“The Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) as the facilitator of this course will provide participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to transition to the administrative level. This training is crucial for those aspiring to higher positions within the civil service,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of ASCON, Mrs Cecelia Gayya, represented by the Director of Studies, Mr. Ahmadu Musa, commended the state government for its commitment to the professional development of its workforce.
He noted that Delta is among the few states that have consistently sustained the Senior Management Course since its inception, a testament to the state’s dedication to fostering a culture of excellence in public service.
Musa urged the participants to take advantage of the training, as it would significantly enhance their administrative capacities and contribute to the overall progress of the state. The occasion was graced by top government functionaries including Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Ministries across the state.
