BY BETI ONU AWKA

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State has warned against unauthorized campaigning for council membership positions within the institution.

In a statement issued, yesterday, and signed b+y Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor (Information and Public Relations), the university management advised that those campaigning for the following positions—four persons elected from the University Senate, two from Congregation, and one from Convocation—should cease immediately.

According to the statement, it has come to the university management’s attention that certain staff members have commenced unauthorized campaigns for the upcoming Governing Council elections.

It stated that the management strongly disapproves of the unauthorized public campaigns conducted by individuals seeking to fill these vacant positions on the University Council.

The statement further noted that these individuals have been creating WhatsApp groups and engaging in other forms of public mobilization, which are not permitted by the university.

“The University management unequivocally condemns these actions and the activities of those seeking to undermine the peace of the university. We urge all concerned to desist from these activities immediately. The University is committed to ensuring a transparent and orderly process for the election of Council members, adhering to established procedures. Any attempts to influence or manipulate this process, including unauthorized campaigning, will not be tolerated.

The management is considering appropriate disciplinary measures against those already found to be involved in these activities, which may include disqualification from consideration for Council positions. We appeal to all members of the University community to uphold our values and respect institutional processes and values regarding the Council membership elections,” the statement concluded.”
