DTHA Resumes Plenary Tomorrow After 5 Weeks Recess,

BARRING any last minute arrangement or further adjournment, legislative activities in the Delta State House of Assembly are set to resume tomorrow, Tuesday, August 27.

This is coming as the five weeks’ recess embarked upon by the State legislature elapses today, Monday.

It would be recalled that the Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor led 8th Assembly, on Thursday, July 18 this year, commenced a five-week recess in the second session of the 8th assembly.

The recess which is an annual ‘ritual’ in the legislative calendar, according to the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor is to enable the lawmakers fraternise with their constituents as well as strategies for the overall development of the House.

With the planned resumption, Assembly watchers look forward to robust legislation from the State lawmakers, particularly further legislation on the ongoing amendment of the State’s Child Rights Law, 2008.

The bill which has sailed through first reading on the floor of the House is being sponsored by the member representing Ika North East State Constituency, Hon. Marylyn Okowa-Daramola.

Second Reading of the bill which is aimed at strengthening the legal framework for the Child’s Rights protection in the State and for other related matters, according to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2024.
