As school resumes on 9th September, 2024 in Delta State, an Uvwie Local Government Area based educationist, Gbubemi Okotie has called on the legislative arm of the Local Government Council to enact law on prohibition of child hawking during school hours in Local Government Area.
He made the call in a media chat with our correspondent in Effurun.
Gbubemi, who commended former Governor of the State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan for setting up committee for the arrest of children hawking during school hours, said that such a ban will discourage child labour and encourage child education in the local government area.
He suggested further that the ban should be enforced in markets, motor parks and on the streets.
Healso called on the Chief Inspector of Education (CIE), in the Local Government to monitor activities of schools in Uvwie Local Government Area on a regular basis and not only during resumption so as instill discipline on pupils, students as well as teachers.
He insisted that the measure will improve the standard of education in the local government area.
