Ohwovoriole Stresses Need To Train Non-Legal Officers

The Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, has highlighted the importance of training and retraining of non-legal officers, especially the staff of the administrative department to enable them acquire techniques for efficient service delivery.

Ohwovoriole stated this in Asaba during a one- day refresher course, organized by the ministry for select members of staff in different cadres, with the theme: “Improving Service Delivery Through Effective Comminication and Good Work Ethics.”

He said that the purpose of the training was to enable staff who are not lawyers to be up-to-date in computerized record keeping.

He recalled that during his recent visit to zonal offices of the ministry, he observed that many of the staff were ready to work but the necessary tools were not there, hence the need for continuous capacity building.

Ohwovoriole stated that the ministry had some records that were kept online even though most of the work are still in paper form, noting that there was no proper computer system in place in their zonal offices.

The Attorney-General of the state explained that there is need for biometrics for any person arrested for crime, so that when the person commits any crime again, it would not be difficult to trace them.

Earlier, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe, represented by the Director of Civil Litigation, Mr. Sunday Monye, said that the in-house training was aimed at enlightening participants on the dos and donts in the chosen topics.

He urged participants to take the training seriously, stressing that the resource persons were seasoned administrators who retired from the civil service.

In an interview with some of the participants, including the functioning Director of Administration in the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Fidelia Obeh, Mr.  Alexander Osozizi, a senior administrative officer and Emmanuella Kanebi, they lauded the Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice as well as the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

It was observed that the capacity building would impact on their day-to-day activities in the ministry, just as the functioning Director of Administration appreciated the Attorney-General for approving the seminar.

She particularly admonished the selected staff of her department to ensure that they make good use of all the tips they were given, especially in the area of punctuality to work and their mode of dressing.

One of the resource persons, Mr. Sylvanus Eboagwu, who also made presentation on record management, maintained that without proper record keeping, nobody would be able to do anything, especially in a modern office setting.
