SON Presents MANCAP Certification To Companies In Delta

The Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) has presented MANCAP certification to deserving companies which have scaled through rigorous quality exercise to be adjudged fit to display the SON logo in Delta State.

MANCAP means the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP). It is a mandatory product certification scheme put in place by SON to ensure that all locally manufactured products in the country conform to the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) before such products are presented for sale in the market or exported.

The MANCAP certificate presentation to deserving stakeholders took place on Wednesday, August 28 at the conference hall of the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) office in Asaba which is located along Mariam Babangida Way in the state capital.

During the occasion, the Director-General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke was represented by the Regional Director, South-South Operations, David Adedayo Malachai who was warmly received in Asaba by the State Coordinator of SON, Dr. Haruna Bawa while the staff of the organization in Asaba were also present at the occasion.

After the arrival of stakeholders and registration, Dr. Bawa presented the opening remarks followed by a speech by Mr. Adedayo on behalf of the DG, while next was a brief introduction of all awardees.

The Head of unit, Civil Works, Mr. Uzomechine Ekene then provided details of the companies under his purview which include Mic Mac Interlocking Paving Stones, Asaba, G.O. Aribull and Sons, Ughelli and Igha-Ozor Concrete Works, Oghara-Iyede, Delta State. Again, Mr. Ernest Daniel of the Chemical Technology Unit, introduced the following companies, Peculiar Pogitations (which is into Emulsion Paints), Olite Manufacturing Company Limited, Great Overcomers (conduit pipes) and one other stakeholder.

Adedeji said in his speech that “MANCAP works through routine inspection of factories to enforce their product standards. When these standards are enforced, companies notice reduction in losses, improved product value and increased profit.” He added that “the process of MANCAP certification is one in which SON guides the companies from raw materials to finished products. SON officials with their wealth of knowledge and experience of different industries visit the companies, go through their processes and personnel, observe issues, give recommendation and written feedbacks and follow up with routine visits to ensure companies don’t fall into laxity in product quality. Companies which are consistent in adhering to standards are finally certified and are given the prerogative to display the SON logo on their products, hence the reason why we are all gathered here.”

On his own part, the State Coordinator, Dr. Bawa urged them to sustain the standards for which they were being awarded with the MANCAP certification. Dr. Bawa asked them to report those operating without certification so as to enable  SON take appropriate action.

The MD/CEO of Peculiar Pogitations, Mr. Adiah, while expressing appreciation to SON on behalf of the awardees, promised that they will be good ambassadors of the organization through product quality to  enable SON realize its goal of improving lives.
