THE 2024 Annual Convention of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) United Kingdom branch, has taken place in London with prominent Urhobo leaders in attendance. The ‘Urhobo Day’ set aside to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Urhobo people, was one of the features of the Convention, which took place at the Light House Hall, Camberwell road, London.
Some Urhobo sons and daughters from across the United Kingdom, colourfully dressed in their special traditional attires, alongside Urhobo leaders who graced the event from Nigeria, used the occasion to showcase their rich cultural identity.
They include; the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom and Chairman, Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council, HRM (Dr.) Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1, the President General of the Urhobo Progress Union, Chief Barr. Ese Gam Owe, Sen (Chief) Ede Dafinone representing Delta Central, Sen (Chief) Dr. Ighoyota Amori, the member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituents in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Rev. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, Chairman, DESOPADEC, Chief Barr. John Nani; Chief Hon. Solomon Edojah, Chief (Dr.) Austin Atiti, Hon. Gloria Oborevwori, among others.
Others were; the Chairman, UPU, UK branch, Chief Ejiro Ughwujabo, Lady Vice President, UPU, UK branch, Chief (Mrs.) Onome After-hours, Chairman, Organizing Committee, Chief (Dr.) Maurice Sanomi; National Secretary, UPU, UK branch, Dr. Sam Egbeniyoko; Founder, Urhobo World United Union, Mr. Akpesiri Amorhokpo; Mr. Oghenero Okpoji, Mrs. Loveth Amori-Okpako and a host of others.
