She Coordinator of Igbodo Social and Cultural Development and a member of the Igbodo Executive Council, Emmanuel Chimaraobi, has said that the people of Igbodo Kingdom have the potential to feed the country through agriculture.
He said the community can only reach its full agricultural potential if the government would support the farmers with the needed resources to enhance food production on a large scale.
Chimarobi made the statement in a chat with our correspondent during the 2024 Ogwa Ika gathering in Igbodo, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to him, the government needs to support the people of Igbodo Kingdom who he said are one of the major food producers in the country.
Chimarobi who is also the Youth Leader in Igbodo Kingdom, said the government should give grants and loans to the farmers in the area to encourage them to cultivate food in commercial quantities.
Reacting to the issues of insecurity in the area, he said that only collective efforts by the people and all security agencies in the area could yield the desired results in fighting insecurity.
He added that all hands must be on deck to checkmate the incessant cases of insecurity as many farmers in the area could no longer go to their farms for fear of being kidnapped.
While appreciating both the federal and state governments for their support in tackling the issues of erosion control in some communities in Igbodo Kingdom, he commended Igbodo Kingdom for the successful hosting of the Ogwa Ika annual event.
The youth leader further used the medium to call on the government to support the developmental growth across Igbodo Kingdom.
