Ughelli South Council Chairman ‘Reaffirms’ Ikolo As King Of Ewu

BY JOELSON EBOH

CHAIRMAN, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Hon. Lucky Avweromre, has ‘reaffirmed’ His Royal Majesty, Clement Ikoko as the legitimate king of Ewu and urged the community to uphold peace and respect for traditional authority.

This directive came during a security meeting held at the Exco Chamber of the of the local government Secretariat, following a contentious issue involving the rival Ahavwa family.

The meeting, which included representatives from the Otu-Jeremi Division Police Officer, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Army, was convened in response to a letter from the Ahavwa family. The letter had suggested that both Chief Bernard Avwarieta and HRM Clement Ikolo should refrain from participating in the upcoming Ewu Urhobo festival. Avweromre, who addressed the media after the meeting, noted that the directive was unlawful and based on misinformation. He emphasized that, according to legal and security guidelines, “only the duly installed traditional ruler holds the authority to perform traditional functions at such events.” The council chairman underscored that the actions of the Ahavwa family could potentially disrupt the peace within the Ewu Urhobo kingdom and reiterated the state government’s stance on recognizing and supporting the legitimate authority of traditional rulers ,who have been officially installed.

He warned against any actions that contravene established legal and traditional norms, stating that those who defy these regulations could face severe legal consequences.
