THE Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delta (UNIDEL) Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, has called on the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to step up its efforts in combating social vices among the youth.
Prof Chiemeke made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the Executive members of the NYCN, Ika South Chapter, to her office.
She expressed concern over the rising incidence of drug abuse, the trend of males wearing dreaded hairstyles, and other social vices, emphasizing the need for immediate action to address these issues.
She further said that UNIDEL is prepared to collaborate with the NYCN by providing lecturers from the Computer Science Department to train youths in digital forensics. According to her, ’ This initiative is part of the university’s commitment to engaging young people in meaningful activities.
Earlier, the Chairman of NYCN, Ika South Chapter, Christian Izegede, praised the Vice-Chancellor and the university’s management for their significant contributions to the institution’s rapid development.
He also used the opportunity to inform the management of the varsity of some of its upcoming programmes, including a Digital Pathway for Community Development programme set to take place later this month.
Izegede emphasized the NYCN’s commitment to partnering with UNIDEL for the benefit of the youth, particularly the university’s students.
He was accompanied by other NYCN members, including Eboka Ndidi, Oseh Mercy, Esemele Friday, Odije Victor, and Elue Chizim, among others.
