Businesses Booms As Asaba Hosts 8th National Youth Games

As the 8th National Youth Games begins today in Asaba, the Delta State capital, gathering athletes and sports enthusiasts from across the 36 states, alongside traders trooping into the town, the event is alreading generating revenue as well as boosting the economy of the state.

The sporting events, which is set to last for 10 days at the popular Stephen Keshi Stadium, attracted traders and business owners from far and near manning the busy streets of Asaba with their various products displayed for bumper harvest.  Speaking to our correspondent, at the premises, some traders expressed gratitude to the state government and organisers for the opportunity to participate in the events in anticipation for a peaceful stay.

According to a footwear dealer from Lagos State, Mr. Benjamin “ I came two days ago, though haven’t made  sales as I expected. I’m hopeful that business will go well with plenty of customers partronizing me before the end of the day. Also, from Imo state, a cap seller, Chichi mentioned that it’s going to be an eventful stay for her, seeing varieties of products and meeting new people. Even as she expresses concern on the security of the environment, trusting that the state government will provide security to the athletes; traders and sports enthusiasts.

However, Chidiebere from Abia State, applauded Delta State government for a peaceful and conducive environment since his arrival.

Others who spoke are: Chukwuka from Delta State, and Chidi from Anambra State. Products displayed at the various stands includes: foot wears, phone accessories, foods and drinks, art and crafts, clothing, hair extension, beverages, electronics and mobile games.
