Eziashi Appeals For Help Against Ravaging Erosion In Ubulu-Okiti

THE former leader of Aniocha South Legislative Arm, Hon. Pius Eziashi has appealed to the state government to save Ubulu-Okiti from erosion menace.

Eziashi said most parts of the community are ravaged by the erosion and that it is threatening houses close to the affected roads.

He specifically mentioned Ugba road leading to the major Onitsha-Benin highway and Okiti Mixed Secondary School road, down to Ogbe Iyase road, saying that these areas were worst hit by the erosion.

Disclosing that the erosion menace had been going on for sometime in the community, the former lawmaker explained the situation has overtime degenerated due to lack of maintenance.

Eziashi, who made the disclosure to Ogwashi-Uku Metro hinted that the two major roads ravaged have drainages that where not constructed with durable construction materials.

According to him, Ugba earth road has only one drainage, while that of Okiti Mixed Secondary School stretching to Ogbe Iyase has two drainages.

“But the problem is that they were not properly constructed with concrete. Most houses that were built close to the affected roads are under severe threat because they are standing suspended below the drainages.

“The two earth roads are currently not motorable except you use motorcycle to traverse the affected areas. The situation of the affected roads and areas concerned is more of recent developments.

“But the problem is that these roads are used by farmers in transporting their farm produce to the urban areas. You know Okiti is an agrarian community and the people majorly rely on their farm produce as their source of income.

“The state government should come to the aid of the community and do something about the erosion. Very soon we would be entering the dry season, at least during this time, government can do something”, he appealed.

“Most importantly, the drainages should be constructed so that waters that flow after rain can find their course. As it is now, things are in bad shape”, he said.
