The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of guns and the sum of N450,000 ransom, in a brothel used as criminal hideout in Ewu town, Ughelli South Local Government Area.
In a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, he disclosed that operatives of the Crack Squad attached to Area Command Ughelli, acting on a tip off, stormed a brothel cum criminal hideout in a Ewu town and arrested five suspects.
The names of the suspects as stated in the release includes; Domini Uweru, Isaac Ogbenerukevwe, Oviri Godstime, Junior Sunday and Efedeki Adjovo.
According to the police spokesman, the suspects confessed to the various armed robbery and kidnapping operations in Ughelli and environs, including the kidnap of a 70 year old woman, whom they kidnapped on August 9, 2024, and collected the sum of N7,900,000, as ransom before her release.
He noted that the items recovered from the suspects includes; one single barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size gun, cash sum of #450,000.00 ransom, one Moniepoint POS machine, one OPAY POS machine, and wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
Meanwhile operatives of Agbarho police station has arrested one Ovoke Enaike, a suspected armed robber at Ehwerhe village Agbarho and recovered a locally fabricated gun, one live cartridge and 38 rounds of AK- 47 rifle hidden under motorcycle seat.
Bright explained that the officers acting on credible information stormed the house of the suspect an indigene of Overie in Ethiope East Local Government Area, but resides in Ehwerhe village Agbarho, adding that the items were recovered during a search of his Daylong motorcycle.
In another development, the Commander CP Monitoring Team, SP Inyere Elias Chinedu, in company of some operatives have arrested two suspected car snatchers along KM9 Asaba/ Benin expressway Asaba.
The suspects, Olisa Emenoha of Ifite Awka, and Iteke Uchenna Wilson of 21 Ngozika estate Awka both from Anambra State , were arrested while in possession of two vehicles, one Toyota Corolla with registration number, AWK 597 ND, and Toyota Camry with registration number, GDD159MA suspected to have been stolen.
As stated in the press release, the suspects were about to dispose off the vehicles when they were apprehended.
