He said Montreal Protocol which was signed in 1987, was a groundbreaking international agreement that phased out the production and consumption of Ozone depleting substances and as a result, we have seen a gradual recovery of the Ozone Layer, thereby protecting life on earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.

He said World Ozone Layer Day was being observed every year to create awareness among people and bring attention of industries, government agencies, academia, policy makers, students and the general public to the depletion of the Ozone Layer and possible solutions to preserve it.

According to him, the work is far from over. As we face the challenges of climate change, saying it is more important now more than ever to build on the success of the Montreal Protocol and continue our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to combat global warming and climate change.

He said by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices, we can work towards a healthier planet for future generations. This, he said can be done by embarking on the followings, transitioning from fossil fuel to Renewable Energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, Improving energy efficiency in buildings, transportation, and manufacturing processes to reduce the overall energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This can be achieved through better insulation, energy-efficient appliances, and

transportation options such as public transit and electric vehicles, adopting sustainable agriculture practices such as organic farming, crop rotation, and agro-forestry to sequester carbon in the soil and reduce emissions from livestock and fertilizers, supporting local, sustainable food systems to reduce emissions associated with food transportation, forest conservation and restoration,

Protecting and restoring forests which act as natural carbon sinks sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, implementing effective waste management practices such as recycling, composting, and reducing food waste can help decrease methane emissions from landfills. Encouraging a circular economy where resources are reused and recycled can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of new goods.

Noting that We all have a role to play: The governments, businesses, and individuals must support policy measures that contribute to a more sustainable future.
