The executive Chairman of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon.(Engr) Jerry Ehiwarior has laid the foundation for the building of Alihame Ultra-Modern Daily Market. The foundation laying ceremony took place, Wednesday September 25, 2024 at Alihame, Agbor.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after performing the foundation laying ceremony, Hon Ehiwarior said that the essence of the project was to meet the demand of the people of the area who have been craving for a modern daily market due to population increase.
He noted that it has become very necessary to build a daily market in a community that is hosting the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor whose number of students have increased.
“My administration is set to build people oriented projects that will benefit and also, be of importance to the people hence, the reason for this market.
“ This is a modern market that has an abattoir with over 86 open shops and 10 lock up shops “, Ehiwarior stated.
He added, “We are currently handling projects like the 1 kilometer and 15 meters Abude Street construction with both sides drainage, building of fruits stand in Edike Street junction to give the Edike Market an urban look, renovation of Alifekede Daily Market with toilet facilities and a borehole, bridge construction that link Edike Market and Okoh Street, among many other projects.
“We are looking up to the commissioning of these projects towards the celebration of our 100 days in office “ he declared.
The Ika South Council Boss expressed gratitude to the leaders and members of Alihame Community for the donation of land in the heart of the community that is accessible and suitable for the market.
He disclosed that his administration is open for constructive criticism “because in the long run those critics will also be building blocks for advance development”.
He therefore called on the people of Ika South to continue to support his administration as he is poised to take the local government to an enviable height of development.
He used the medium to advise residents to help monitor all ongoing projects in the local government so as to ensure standard and quality work delivery.
Meanwhile, the contractor handling the modern market project and Managing Director, Ndubest Construction Company, Engr. Nduka Jerry promised to deliver the project with standard materials in line with the terms of agreement.
In the same vein, the Secretary, Alihame Community, Pa Jacob Nwadozie, Pa Omordia Michael, Pa Ogboi Thomas and other Alihame elders who spoke during the ceremony commended Hon Ehiwarior for deeming it fit to build a modern market for Alihame in less than one hundred days in office. They prayed for his success in office and also, pledged their full support for his administration.
Speaking also, the PDP Woman Leader in Ika South and Executive Assistant to the Delta State governor, on Women Mobilization, Ezinne Cecilia Ogbonyeri, who was on ground to witness the ceremony appreciated Ehiwarior for the Alihame Modern Daily Market project which according to her was a prayer answered as people of the community have been without a market for many years.
