DTSG Fulfils Promise To Family Of Teacher Flogged To Death

Delta State Government has fulfilled its promise to provide financial assistance and scholarship to the family of late teacher, Mr. Sunday Ufah, who was tragically murdered by a parent at Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor, in Ika -South local Government Area of the state.

The presentation was made by the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Augustine Oghoro, at the Chief Edozien Secretariat in Asaba, yesterday.

According to Ezewu, the incident, which shook the community, school and staffs, underscored the growing concerns around violence in educational institutions.

She noted that the late teacher, known for his dedication to his students, became the victim of a tragic confrontation that escalated beyond control.

“His death left a void not only in the hearts of his family but also in the entire school community, where he was cherished as a mentor and role model. In the wake of this senseless tragedy, the state government made a commitment to the bereaved family to provide support and ensure justice was served. And today, that promise is being fulfilled”, she said

She added that, as part of the state government promise to provide financial assistance to help the family cope with the immediate aftermath of their loss, he also took steps to ensure that the children’s education was secured, a testament to the late teacher’s passion for learning.

Mrs. Ezewu highlighted the need for stronger policies and security measures to protect teachers and other school staff from violence, emphasizing that no educator should ever have to fear for their life while performing their duties, as she noted that this fulfillment of promise by the state government was a powerful reminder that in the face of tragedy, the strength of community and leadership can bring about healing and support.

In her remarks, the wife of the late Mr. Ufah Sunday, Mrs. Christiana Ufah, expressed her gratitude to the state government for their commitment and support. She applauded the government for ensuring that her children, through the state scholarship program, had access to quality education and the necessary support to succeed in life.

Similarly, the Delta State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Dan Basime, commended the state government and the Commissioner for Secondary Education for their efforts during the incident.

He appealed for the scholarship awarded to the children to be a lasting one, ensuring that in the future, both the late teacher’s children and other stakeholders will speak positively of the government’s support.

Comrade Basime also urged teachers to remain dedicated to greater productivity and committed service to the development of Delta State.
