Edo Guber: New Delta PDP Exco Urges Need To Save Democracy

  • Holds Inaugural Meeting
  • Promises Reconciliation

BY PATRICK MGBODO

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Executive in Delta State, yesterday, stated that the electoral fiasco witnessed in the recent Edo State governorship election was avoidable, declaring that elections are about the will of the people. Delta State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, made this known while addressing journalists in Asaba, following the inaugural meeting of the newly-elected state party executive and local government party chairmen in the state.

According to Arenyeka after the inaugural meeting, “we got to familiarise ourselves with each other. Although we are from the same party, we are from different local government areas in the state.

“We also passed messages of solidarity and goodwill to our teeming supporters around the 25 local government areas of the state and also highlighted the principles of loyalty, which is one of the hallmarks of a good party man; loyalty to the party, the state, the governor.

“We just started today (yesterday) and you can see the outpouring of love demonstrated here and we will not waste any time” he said, adding ‘’We will try as much as possible to bring people back but I can say anytime that the PDP is solidly on the ground. However, we need to be more solid.

“The story of Edo election is for another day but I will say that it is shameful. We do not want to comment much on that but we know that nothing like that can ever happen in Delta State because we are organised and they (opposition) know that we are organised.  “We will ensure to plug all loopholes and reconcile members who are aggrieved. It is expected that after the primaries and a candidate emerges, you come back and build your party.

‘’For those who are here, we reaffirmed our commitment to remain together and for those who are not here, we will do everything possible to bring them back so that the debacle in Edo State does not happen in Delta”, Arenyeka said.

Earlier, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olorogun (Dr) Ebenezer Okorodudu expressed confidence in the leadership of Chief Arenyeka based on his verifiable antecedents in several leadership positions in both the public and private sectors, as well as his excellence in grassroots politics.  ‘’There is no doubt that he (Arenyeka) is a round peg in a round hole and expectations are very high that his tenure as the state chairman of PDP in Delta will take the party to unprecedented realms of glory and democratic accomplishments’’, Okorodudu said.
