Flooding: DTSG Begins Preparations For IDP Camps

IN a proactive move to forestall the effect of the anticipated flooding in some parts of the country, the Delta State Government has initiated preparations for designated camps to accommodate potential Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS)) and others that may be affected by the floods.

The move to ensure the safety and welfare of Deltans in flood-prone areas was disclosed following an assessment and review by the flood disaster management committee after the team toured several flood-prone locations across the state.

Led by the Chairman of the  Committee and Secretary to State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, and the co-chair, the Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Etacherure Ejiro Terry,  the team, which included the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mrs. Lyna Ochulor, and Director of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Karo Ovemeso, the committee conducted an on-the-spot assessment of several locations at risk of flooding.

They visited flashpoints at Oko, Berger, and Tipper Junction in Oshimili South local government area, as well as Mile 5 and Ugbolu in Oshimili North local government area

At the Ugbolu axis, the team observed that farmlands were already being submerged due to rising water levels were from the River Niger. The committee also reached out to community leaders in Ndokwa East, Patani, Bomadi, and Isoko North LGAs to assess the situation in those areas, ensuring a broad-based approach to flood management across the state.
