THE outgone president of Isheagu community, Chief Stephen Uwafili has condemned the vandalization of a sub-station commonly known as transformer in the community by criminals.
The transformer, according to Uwafili, was donated by illustrious sons and daughters of Isheagu community.
The community leader, who stated this in a chat with our correspondent when contacted, hinted that Isheagu has remained without electricity for several decades.
He revealed that while one of the transformers was donated to the community during the tenure of former House of Reps member, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, the vandalized one was procured by the community.
He explained that the failure of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), to link the transformers and by extension the entire community to the national grid was a major reason for the vandalization, adding that it would not have been so if the transformers were stringed to the high tension line.
While calling on the BEDC distribution company to link the community to the national grid, Uwafili maintained that it was wrong for Isheagu to remain in blackout for decades.
On the Isikiti satellite town earth road, Uwafili revealed that the community has taken the matter to Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) via a letter. While acknowledging the completion of the Isheagu – Ewulu link road by Delta State Government, he said the community is still awaiting the commissioning by the state government.
“We had to write NDDC over the Isheagu – Isikiti link road. You know Isikiti is Isheagu’s satellite town. There is a small river separating the two communities. To access Isikiti from Isheagu, you have to trek across a makeshift wooden bridge that was constructed by the community. “Although, NDDC has not responded to our request to construct the road, we are hoping that they would do something about it soon.”
“Isikiti is a major satellite community because that is a community where you have gifted traditional orthopedic practitioners. No matter the bone injury, there are persons in Isikiti who can reset the broken bone.
“So you can see that the satellite community is not one that should be neglected. It will therefore do us a world of good if NDDC will graciously do something about the road so that it can be accessed easily”, he said.
