Okonye Promises Open-Door Policy

THE newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ubulu-Uku Development Council (UDC), Chief Raphael Okonye has assured the people of their resolve to operate an open door policy where all indigenes of the community can have a say in the day to day running of the town union.

This was as he maintained that the caretaker committee will remain resolute in discharging its duties pending the next election to usher in an elected executive of UDC.

While saying the committee will prioritize the review of the union’s constitution, Chief Okonye said they would work towards addressing the issue that bothers on the changing of the town union’s name from Ubulu-Uku Development Council to Ubulu-Uku Kingdom Descendants Union.

“I must say that while we have come to salvage the instabilities, misgivings and acrimonis which marked the greater part of the outgone executive; it is worthwhile to say that they may have done their best, as managing people is not an easy task.

“Therefore, in charting a new course for our community, we will prioritize the review of the constitution of UDC in other to bring harmony and inclusiveness to all branches. “We have plans to improve on the relationship between the UDC and the Diaspora branches and as such, we shall explore the potentials of their participation in the affairs of the union, including the next election.

“Let me state clearly that our committee is loyal to the Obi of our community and his chiefs as well as the good people of Ubulu-Uku, as such, we are committed to carrying out our responsibilities diligently for the betterment of our community”, he pledged.

He, however, commended the Obi of Ubulu-Uku and the Obi-In-Council for deeming them worthy to serve, saying that they will not fail.

The Palace Secretary, Barr. Joe Obaze on his part charged the caretaker committee to work in harmony with the palace, stressing that this was what the outgone executive failed to do.

Explaining that town unions are supposed to work in unity with the Obi and the Obi-In-Council, Obaze hinted that it is such understanding that helps to fast track the development of any community.

He however urged the new executive to carry out its assignment with commitment and diligence, adding that that will help to enhance peace and harmony in Ubulu-Uku.
