Independence Day: Nigeria Will Surmount Challenges-Oborevwori

  • As Atiku Begs Elites To Save Nation From Tinubu’s Dictatorship
  • IPOB Warns Ndigbo Not To Celebrate

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 64th Independence anniversary, but charged them to work in harmony to surmount the economic and security challenges facing the country.

In a statement in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori admonished Nigerians to work in unison, irrespective of political, religious and ethnic diversities, to ensure the nation overcame its present challenges.

Governor Oborevwori, who sent warm felicitations to President Bola Tinubu, Deltans and other Nigerians on this year’s Independence anniversary, urged the citizens to support the government’s efforts at salvaging the nation from insecurity and economic downturn.

The Governor said: “On behalf of the Government and people of Delta, I congratulate Nigerians as we celebrate the 64th anniversary of our country’s independence.

“As a country, we have been privileged to enjoy uninterrupted democracy since 1999 and it is imperative we continue to work hard in building on the gains of the last 25 years of unbroken democratic rule.

“October 1st is a day to celebrate and pay tribute to our country men and women who sacrificed so that we can celebrate this day; we should never forget the sacrifices of our heroes past.

“At 64, Nigeria has come a long way despite economic, security and political setbacks; it is important we remain strong, exercise patience and be of good faith in God and our nation’s leaders at this critical period of economic and security challenges.

“As an administration, it is on record that we have recorded significant strides in the implementation of our MORE Agenda aimed at making life more meaningful for Deltans since we came on board on 29th May, 2023.

“As we celebrate this year’s independence anniversary, be assured that we will remain focused on delivering our M.O.R.E Agenda to Deltans.”

….Save Nigeria From Dictatorship Under Tinubu, Atiku Begs Political Elites

Meanwhile, as Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Anniversary, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the political elites to unite and safeguard the country’s democracy from the “precipice of authoritarianism.”

Atiku, in a statement he personally signed, hinted that the political impasse in the country has become “corrosive; opposition parties languish in weakness, while the ruling party appears to manipulate internal processes to render them ineffectual.”

The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, lamented that Nigeria is almost becoming a one party dictatorship and called on “politicians and statesmen of integrity to rise and reclaim our democracy from the encroaching shadows of oppression.”

The opposition leader said, “While democracy has anchored our institutions in the principles of the rule of law, we have yet to achieve satisfactory progress in fostering political inclusivity and ensuring elections that are genuinely free and fair.” He, therefore, implored the political elite to “unite in a noble mission to safeguard our democracy from the precipice of authoritarianism.

“Our founding fathers united under a common cause, championing our independence through peaceful, political activism. What we celebrate today is the fruition of their collective endeavors and those of subsequent generations.”

He noted that regrettably the current landscape reflected a troubling decline in electoral credibility, increasingly subject to the caprices of the ruling class.

“Our political milieu has become corrosive; opposition parties languish in weakness, while the ruling party appears to manipulate internal processes to render them ineffectual.

“Nigeria teeters on the brink of a one-party dictatorship, and it is incumbent upon all politicians and statesmen of integrity to rise and reclaim our democracy from the encroaching shadows of oppression,” Atiku declared.

…. Don’t Celebrate Nigeria’s Independence – IPOB Warns Ndigbo

On its part, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared a ban on Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration across the Southeast on October 1.

IPOB warned that the Nigerian flag will not fly, there will be no Independence Day activities for students, and businessmen should go about their lawful activities in the Southeast tomorrow.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Directorate of State cautioned Igbos against celebrating Nigerian Independence because Biafra would soon be actualized.

According to Powerful: “The Directorate of State (DOS) of the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) wishes to remind Biafrans at home and in the diaspora that the ban on the celebration of the ZOO Nigeria annual October 1st Independence Day by Biafrans is still in force. As a Biafran, you are to avoid any Nigeria Independence celebration globally.

“IPOB calls on Biafrans globally to go about their normal business because we are not part of Nigeria and have nothing to do with their British flag independence of 1960. We are aware that some prominent Igbo men and women played pivotal roles in securing the flag independence that Nigeria celebrates annually on every October 1st; however, such independence has taken more blood of Ndigbo to maintain than any other ethnic group in Nigeria. Biafrans have decided to reject the bloody flag independence of Nigeria and work for the restoration of a true, united, and prosperous Independent State of Biafra. Therefore, every Biafran should reject this Nigerian-forced unity as we look forward to celebrating Biafra independence soon.

“Ndigbo must adhere to this clarion call to stop every activity concerning Nigeria’s independence tomorrow. There shall be no flying of Nigerian flags in Biafra territory. There shall be no independence activities for students in Biafraland. Everyone should go about their businesses or use that day for family quality time and rest at home for those who may choose not to go for their work and business.

“IPOB is not joking with the restoration of Biafra freedom and sovereignty. Do not make yourself an enemy of the struggle by participating in Nigeria flag independence celebrations tomorrow. Parents and guardians must not allow their children to go for any Nigerian independence activities tomorrow. We are monitoring everywhere in Biafraland. As an Igbo parent, do not allow your children to be sacrificed for a country that considers them less than human.”
