THE Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Delta State Chapter has organized a two-day capacity building workshop in collaboration with the Red Cross Society, aimed at empowering participants with essential life-saving skills.
The event, held in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press center yesterday, focused on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other critical first aid and safety practices.
The workshop drew participants from various media professionals, all eager to enhance their knowledge in emergency response.
According to the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo, who was represented by the State Secretary, Mrs. Tracy Ikolomi, said that, the purpose of the training was to equip members of the association with the necessary skills for emergency response, enabling them to effectively handle future emergency situations.
Comrade Unobunjo encouraged participants to actively engage in the training to fully grasp its importance and learn how to implement the knowledge gained.
Speaking at the event, the Red Cross facilitators and experts in first aid and emergency care, Mr. Charles Arinomor provided hands-on training, while ensuring participants gained practical experience in dealing with life-threatening situations.
“Journalists often find themselves in dangerous or high-risk environments. Being equipped with CPR and first aid skills can make the difference between life and death in critical situations,” he said.
Mr. Arinomor and his team, covered a wide range of topics, including the basics of CPR, managing fractures, burns, and bleeding, as well as handling emergencies such as choking and shock.
The interactive nature of the workshop allowed participants to practice these skills in real-time scenarios.
Participants lauded NAWOJ and the Red Cross for organizing such an impactful training, with many expressing that the knowledge gained would not only benefit their professional lives but also their personal safety and that of their communities.
