DTSG Awards 56 Highways, Urban Roads –Izeze

Delta State Executive Council has awarded 56 contracts for the construction and development of various infrastructural projects across the State in the last 15 months.

The Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Hon. Comrade Yakubu Rueben Izeze made this known in an interview with newsmen in Asaba.

The projects, Comrade Izeze said were awarded between May 29, 2023 till date, and were allocated to facilitate the development of infrastructural projects encompassing the construction of roads, bridges, flyovers and drains.

“His Excellency is too equitable. He sees that projects are evenly distributed. People talked about Julius Berger projects, the total amount put on Julius Berger projects is how much compared to the volume that has been invested in other parts of the State? Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is over fair,” he said

According to him, the State Governor inherited 154 urban roads and highways with a length of 453.80KM from previous administration, and so far completed 26 projects; a length of 36.98KM as enshrined in his MORE Agenda mantra of completing ongoing projects. He said the State Government has awarded 56 new urban roads and highways, with a length of 94.200KM for the Ministry of Works (Highways and Urban Roads) and also completed 13 so far; a length of 12.994KM.

“Drains were not left behind as this current Governor also inherited a length of 345.33KM and has completed 36.093KM length of Drains,” he added.

The former lawmaker, who represented Ughelli South State Constituency in the State House of Assembly said in the interview that Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori-led government awarded a length of 50.358KM of drains and has since completed 8.954KM.

He reiterated that ongoing projects are 210 in number, with a length of 548KM while 39 projects of 49.974KM were completed. In his words: “I want to be remembered for Legacy roads and can assure you that under my supervision as the Commissioner of Works (Highways and Urban Roads), none of our roads will fail in fifteen years’ time. If not, we will not be involved”.
