  • Constitutes Compliance Taskforce

BY DINMA BIGWA

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Delta State Chapter, has resolved to enforce the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage for state and local government workers, with arrears effective from July 29, 2024.

This decision was reached during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of the NLC held in Asaba at the Labour House, Asaba, the state capital.

Presided over by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, the meeting expressed appreciation to the state government for constituting a Negotiation Committee to implement the new minimum wage.

The SEC emphasized that state and local governments should immediately commence payment of the new wage structure, as outlined in the circular issued earlier. Additionally, the SEC called on the private sector to adopt the new wage structure without delay.

To ensure full compliance, a task force was established to oversee implementation in both the public and private sectors across all 25 local government areas of the state.

The NLC also reiterated its commitment to further negotiations with the state government, urging workers to remain patient while the process is completed.

Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, in his statement, reassured workers that the full implementation of the new minimum wage, along with arrears, will be achieved after the negotiations.

The Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Enekhawore Acrobat, signed off on the resolutions alongside Comrade Ofobruku.

Recall that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had pledged commitment to the implementation of the new Minimum Wage of N70,000 for workers in the state, following President Bola Tinubu’s assent to the law earlier in the year.
