The Director-General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) Dr. Isaac Akpoveta has reiterated the commission’s unwavering commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Delta State.
He made the statement, during a meeting with the Permanent Secretary and other senior staff of the Hospital Management Board (HMB), where he assured Deltans that the mission of the agency to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare for all remains its top priority.
In his remarks, Dr.IssacAkpoveta, highlighted that the aim of the meeting was to dialogue on issues affecting the scheme and ensure that quality health care is provided for Deltans, while stating that the Commission is doubling efforts to expand its healthcare programmes to reach every nook and cranny of the state.
He stated that the focus was to improve the quality of services in the primary and secondary healthcare facilities, whilst ensuring that all enrollees in the contributory health scheme receive prompt and effective medical attention. “We should not only focus on providing healthcare; we are committed to ensuring that the healthcare services we provide are of the highest quality. Our goal is to make sure that no one is left behind, especially the vulnerable populations such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly. We also promise to make sure that what is meant for service providers, gets to them.” He said.
He mentioned that the Commission has begun plans to embark on state-wide campaigns to educate citizens about the financial protection and health benefits offered through the programme, especially in covering common ailments, surgeries, and maternity care.
Also, as part of improving the capacity of the commission’s staff to carry out their mandates effectively, Dr.Akpoveta revealed that plans were underway to prioritize the training of bill officers and account officers of health personnel to keep them abreast with the ethics of the profession.
In his remarks, the Board Chairman of DSCHC, Dr. Austin Obidi, commended the HMB for their contributions to the health sector. He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the HMB and the Commission to further enhance healthcare in the state.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary HMB, Dr. Paul Okubor applauded the commission for their efforts in tackling the issues facing the service providers, while urging the commission to improve and sustain the quality of their services.
He stressed that through strategic planning, partnerships, and public engagement, the Commission would strengthen the state’s healthcare system for future generations.
