Ute-Okpu Community Gets Police Divisional Headquarters

THE Federal Government has approved the establishment of a Police Divisional Headquarters in Ute-Okpu Kingdom, a move aimed at combating the rampant kidnapping and banditry affecting the region and surrounding areas in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

During an inspection visit to the site, Delta State Commissioner of Police (CP) Olufemi Abaniwonda laid the foundation for the new headquarters, describing the project as a significant milestone.

He expressed confidence that the establishment of the Police Divisional Headquarters would greatly reduce the high rates of kidnapping and other criminal activities that have plagued the community.

CP Abaniwonda, represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) George Efizomor, commended the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chamberlain Dunkwu for his efforts in facilitating the project.

He urged the community to provide necessary support and information to the police to ensure successful operations once the headquarters becomes operational.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Chamberlain Dunkwu highlighted that the persistent incidents of kidnapping and banditry faced by residents prompted him to seek assistance from security authorities in Abuja, including the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police.

He assured the community that the new headquarters, expected to be completed within three months, would be equipped with modern facilities to enhance police effectiveness.

Hon. Dunkwu also pledged to construct suitable police officers’ quarters by 2025, ensuring that any officers deployed to the community have adequate accommodation.

The President General of Ute-Okpu, Dr. Festus Okubor, acknowledged the distressing nature of kidnappings in the area but noted that the situation has seen some improvement. He urged all community members to prioritise the development of Ute Kingdom, regardless of where they find themselves.
