Agofure Inaugurates Transport Data Management Committee

The Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Onoriode Agofure has inaugurated members of the State Transportation Data Management Committee.

Agofure inaugurated the committee members at the Prof Chike Edozien Secretariat Complex in Asaba, the state capital.

The commissioner reiterated that the passage of the Transportation Data Management Law was to transform the transportation sector by building a more efficient, transparent, secure and responsive transportation system.

He added that the system would leverage data to drive decisions, enhance service delivery and ensure the safety and convenience of all road users.

‘’Our gathering is not just to discuss a new system, but laying the foundation for a future where data informs every aspect of our transportation infrastructure, from planning and policy-making to daily operations, setting a precedent that could inspire other regions to emulate”.

According to the commissioner, the Transportation Data Management System would check many illegalities in the transportation sector, such as kidnapping, robberies and other vices, perpetrated against commuters. He disclosed that all commercial vehicles, buses, tricycles (Keke) and even motorcycle operators would be profiled, stressing that security QR Code stickers would be pasted on conspicuous parts of commercial vehicles, saying that “you can scan it on your phone and check it out within a minute and all information, concerning the operator and phone numbers and addresses, would pop up”

Agofure stated that all motor parks would be registered in line with the system. He added the role of stakeholders includes, the provision of regulatory support and ensuring that the implementation aligns with state policies, overseeing the implementation and regular operations of the project.  The Committee members included the representatives of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), the Police, the Department of the State Services (DSS), members of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association (COMTOA), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Operators of Motor Parks, as well as the personnel from of Internal Revenue Board (Revenue Leakage).
