…Warri North LG First Lady Urges The Girl-Child

The First Lady and wife of the Chairman of Warri North Local Government, Mrs. Omasan Ashima has charged the girl-child in the local government area to aim higher and not settle for less. She said they could always do whatever they put their mind, like their opposite sex, even as she asked them to report case of bullying to the appropriate quarters.

The wife of the Warri North chairman gave the charge in Koko, headquarters of the local government area at a forum organized by the executives of the National Association of Itsekiri Students (NAIS) to help create more awareness on the challenges faced by the Girl-Child in, as highlighted by the United Nations.

The United Nations set aside the 11th of every October to commemorate the Girl-Child globally.

Speaking further, the first lady admonished the girl-child in the local government area to always talk to their parents and not keep secrets at their age, adding that they should do their best to resist premarital sex, as it could negatively affect the pursuit of their cherished goals in life.

She also advised them to abstain from cultism, substance/drug use as well as dissociate themselves from all other social vices which could dampen their hope for a better future.

She assured the girl-child in the local government area that as the first mother and wife of the chairman, she owed it a duty to encourage her husband to initiate and implement programmes that would better the lots of the girl- child in the area.

In a bid to demonstrate how committed the Hon. Ashima-led administration was taking the case of the girl-child seriously, the first lady revealed that the Warri North Chairman had already produced a large consignment of school materials and other learning aids which would soon be distributed to schools in the area, but with special emphasis on the needs of the girl-child.

Among the materials already procured by the Council Chairman awaiting distribution to school children, she said, include: school bags, textbooks, notebooks, sandals and biros.

Earlier, the executives of the National Association of Itsekiri Students, organizers of the ceremony had featured a variety of programmes which aimed at sensitizing the Girl-Child on the way out of some of the challenges faced by them as they grow up.

According to the organizers, the programme was sponsored mainly by the Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Festus Ashima, and a Non-Governmental Organisation, “Omo Foundation”, to who they expressed gratitude.
