The immediate past Special Assistant to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on Teachers Professional Development Centre, Ogbueshi (Dr.) Tony Onwuka has called on the people of Okpanam community to sustain their socio-cultural identity and other things that bind them together.
Ogbueshi (Dr.) Onwuka made the call in his Umuomahe residence, Obodogba Quarters, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area during his new yam festival celebration which coincided with the Feast of St. Michael’s Day.
He said that he was happy to cook for his kinsmen in celebration of the new yam festival as an Mkpalor as demanded by their tradition, adding that as a christian he decided to mark his 2024 new yam festival during the feast of St. Michael’s Day Celebration.
While describing new yam festival celebration as a period to appreciate God for the bountiful harvest, His mercies and gift of life, he clarified that St. Michael’s Day and their new yam festival celebration as Christian, notwithstanding being a title holder, one could choose to celebrate his new yam festival either in August or September.
He used the opportunity to advise the people of Obodogba Quarters and Okpanam in general to continue to live in peace and love one another and shun violent acts at all times.
