RENOWNED academic and Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication at Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Prof. Joyce Ogwezi, is set to be the guest speaker at The Pointer newspaper’s 30th anniversary celebration, scheduled for October 28, 2024.
She will deliver a keynote address on the topic, “The Mass Media and the Challenges of Consolidating Nigeria’s Democracy and Cultural Ethos.”
The event, to be held at the Grand Hotel and Resort in Asaba, is themed “Honouring Truth and Unity Through Excellence in Public Communication” and will celebrate The Pointer’s remarkable 30-year journey in delivering credible, community-focused news across Delta State and beyond since its inception in 1994.
The celebration will be hosted by the Chairman of the Board of the Delta Printing and Publishing Company (DPPC), Olorogun Ebenezer Okorodudu, with Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as the special guest of honour. His deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Guwor Emmotimi, and the Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, will also grace the event as guests of honour.
Meanwhile, the father of the day will be the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Felix Mujakperuo, while the former Minister of Information, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, will serve as the chairman of the day.
The celebration is expected to draw a broad audience, including media professionals, government officials, staff and management of the organisation, academics, and the general public.
A highlight of the event will be the awards segment, which will recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to The Pointer’s advancement of journalism in the state.
The anniversary will not only celebrate past achievements but also serve as a platform to chart a course for the future, as the publication continues to uphold its principles of truth, unity, and excellence in public communication.
The Pointer 30th anniversary will be rounded up with a thanksgiving service.
