A call has been made to well- to -do indigenous people of Ika South Local Government Area to contribute to the growth and development of the area.
The call was made by the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, at the commissioning of the newly rebuilt St. John’s College, Alihagu, Agbor.
Engr. Ehiwarior, who was full of praise for the co-founder of Prince Ebeano Supermarket and Mr. David Ojeii, who rebuilt the school and gave it the new look of a modern educational centre, urged others to emulate them.
“I want to sincerely appreciate the Issele Uku Diocese and Ebeano Supermarket for this grand gesture. I am happy that our people are beginning to realize the need to come back home to join hands with the government to develop our communities. Indeed, it is a thing of joy.
“I am using this opportunity to pass a message of encouragement to other sons and daughters of Ika South that have the wherewithal to come home to invest and support the government to bring development to our people.
“To build a better and prosperous Ika South, every one of us must contribute his/her quota. What our brothers have done in rebuilding this school for a better learning environment is a testimony to their love and desire to see that our children get a better future. We must all commend them,” he added
While acknowledging the inputs of the pioneer principal of the school, Mr. Arthur Aniemeke, for laying a solid foundation for it, , he urged the current principal and other members of staff to inculcate the right values and sound morals that would prepare the children for the onerous task of rebuilding Nigeria.
St. John’s College,Alihagu, is equipped with state-of- the-art facilities, including a large computer/ICT Centre, and library. The ICT laboratory is solar- powered, internet enabled with G5 computers, 2 teachers, laptop, a smart board and a projector.as well as five science laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Home Economics and Agriculture.
The occasion attracted the cream of society, including the representative of Barr. Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Fred Ofume, Rev. Benjamin Elue of Issele Uku Diocese, pioneer and current principals of the school, all of whom commended those behind its rebuilding.
