Comrade Reuben Rume Yakubu Izeze was appointed Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads) and was sworn-in by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on August 22, 2023.
He was born in Makurdi the Benue State capital to an Oginibo father and Olomu mother both of Ughelli-South Local Government Area of Delta State.
He had his early education at Army Children Primary School, Jos between 1977-1983 and secondary education at Government Secondary School, Jos from 1983-1988.
Com. Izeze was admitted to study Petroleum Engineering at the Petroleum Training Institute PTI between 1996-2001. He also studied Law at the Delta State University Abraka where he was honored as the best graduating student from his department during the 8th Convocation ceremony of the University.
Izeze recently bagged his Master of Laws degree from the University of Benin in affiliation with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja. His thesis “Critiquing The Democratic Ideals of Standing orders of Legislative House Through The Prism of The Rules of The Delta State House of Assembly: Lessons From a Cross-country Survey”, was adjudged the best by the external examiner and published in the Volume 12 of the 2023 edition of the Nigerian Journal of Legal Studies.
Due to his love for service and activism, he was elected Speaker of the Students Union Government during his days at PTI. He was also active in NANS and served as the Public Relations Officer PRO of NANS Zone B.
Com. Reuben Rume Izeze joined the services of American Oil giants Exxon Mobil as a Production Operator between 2003-2004 and left to join the Public Service where he served with the National Assembly Service Commission NASC as a Personal Assistant to Dr Chris Oghenechovwen, member House of Representatives between 2005-2006.
He joined the Public Service of Delta State in 2006 as Special Assistant (Students Affiars) to Governor James Ibori. He was later appointed Special Assistant, Special Duties, Special Assistant, Protocols and Senior Special Assistant, Protocols by Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.
Com. Izeze has used his office to influence the employment of over 500 Deltans into the Civil and Public Service of Delta State. He commands huge and enviable respect within and outside the students community. He formed the Comrade Community which later metamorphosed into the Believers’ Council an organization whose believes are entrenched in the universality and equality of mankind.
In April, 2015, he was overwhelmingly elected by the good people of Ughelli-South State Constituency to represent them at the Delta State House of Assembly. In June 2015 when the 6th Assembly of the Delta State House of Assembly was inaugurated, he was elected Majority Whip of the House and also Chairman, House Committee on Rules, Business, Legal and Judiciary Matters. His main driving force for gunning for a political office is to use public office for the development of his people.
While at the Delta State House of Assembly, he used his legislative prowess to anchor on the SMART Agenda of the then Governor Ifeanyi Okowa which yielded several multi-billion naira infrastructural dividends to the people of his Constituency.
Chiefly among these dividends include the Construction of Okpare/Umolo/Ovwodokpokpor/Kia gbodo Road, Okpe-Olomu Secondary Road, the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the 7.93km Ekakpamre, Ekrokpe, Usiefrun, Orhuwhorun road in Ughelli South and Udu LGAs, Ongoing Construction of Orere Bridge, Etaiga Road in Ewu, Construction of bridge along Ovwor/Effurun-Otor road, Okwagbe/Ophorigbala/Otutuama/Esaba Road and the Construction of the Otu-Jeremi/Oginibo/Okwagbe/Otor-Owhawha/Oghior road in Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas.
An erudite lawmaker, Izeze has over 5 Bills to his credit viz: A Bill for a Law to amend the Delta State Internal Revenue Consolidated (Amendments) Bill 2016, the Tenancy Bill of Delta State to Repeal the Rent Control and Recovery of Residential Premises Law Cap. R51997 and other Matters connected; “A Bill for a Law to provide for the Control of Nomadic Cattle Rearing in Delta State and to Establish the Delta State Advisory Council on grazing, to repeal the Control of Movement of Animals Law 2009 and for other Matters connected thereto; A Bill for a Law to Prohibit Forceful Entry and Illegal Occupation of Landed Properties, Violent and Fraudulent Conduct in Relation to Landed Property in Delta State and other matters connected therewith.”
As Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, Business, Legal and Judicial Matters, Hon. Izeze as a Co-sponsor, ensured the passing of the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill in Delta State.
He faithfully kept to his electoral promise of being accountable to his people by briefing his Constituents yearly on his representation, a development which stood him out amongst his colleagues.
Hon. Izeze a recipient of numerous awards, was recently honoured by the Edo Legacy Foundation Inc. as Best State Legislator of the year 2017 and as Ughelli Hall of Fame Award as the Ughelli Nation Most Articulate Legislator of the 2017 by the Ughelli Times Magazine for his outstanding contributions to the Socio-Economic Growth and Development of Ughelli Nation and humanity at large.
He is married to his beloved wife, Ruona and the union is blessed with 3 wonderful kids.
