Akpowowo Withdraws Bill Seeking Recognition Of Legal Rights Of River Ethiope

A bill before the State House of Assembly; “Delta State Recognition of Legal Rights of River Ethiope Bill, 2024, yesterday suffered a setback as it was withdrawn by the lead sponsor, Hon. Arthur Akpowowo.

The bill, which was earlier scheduled for second reading at yesterday’s Plenary, was withdrawn by the lead sponsor who is also the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly.

The bill had earlier sailed through first reading on the floor of the State Assembly, as it was contained in the Assembly’s Orders of the Day for a second reading.

When called up for a second reading, the lead sponsor and Chairman, House of Assembly committee on Legislative Compliance quickly sought a leave of absence from the House for the withdrawal.

Announcing his intention for the withdrawal, he said, “I rise in my honour to announce the withdrawal of the bill. He who fights and runs away, will always live to fight again” Laughs.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon Emomotimi Guwor in his ruling, said, “The bill stands withdrawn”.
