BY CHIKA KWAMBA

The Delta State Civil Service Commission (CSC), yesterday, confirmed that there is no backlog in placing or promoting qualified civil servants into suitable positions, underscoring its commitment to career progression and staff development.

The Chairman of the State CSC, Lady Roseline Amioku said this during the submission of a report by the panel of assessors to screen successful civil servants in the 2024 Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) public service examination in Asaba, yesterday.

At the event, Lady Amioku recalled that at the inauguration of the panel of assessors on July 19, 2024, the commission expressed confidence in their ability to perform the assignment efficiently and effectively, even as she commended them for the thorough and timely discharge of their assignments. According to Lady Amioku, ‘’As you are aware, the Commission places a high premium on the inter-cadre transfer of successful officers in the ASCON Public Service Examination because it enables us to place deserving officers in suitable posts where they can function effectively in the service.

‘’Thus, it has become a yearly exercise; consequently, there is no backlog of successful ASCON candidates at the moment. Let me place on record that it is part of the deliberate policy of the Oborevwori administration to run an all-inclusive government of which civil servants are a critical part’’ Amioku said. Earlier, the Chairman of the Panel of Assessors, Mr Austin Oghoro, submitted copies of the report and the recommendations. In his remarks, he gave appropriate recommendations to the commission as regards eligibility and transfer in the administrative and other special departmental cadres in the state civil service.

“The panel sat for six weeks. During this period, it invited concerned officers to register their names and other particulars with it and conducted written tests and oral interviews for the candidates. “A total of 52 officers registered for the screening/interview exercise and indicated interest in being transferred to different posts and cadres in the state civil service.  “All the officers participated in the written tests for three subjects, namely, English Language, General Knowledge, and Mathematics, with 40 questions in each subject, including other interviews.

“At the end of the exercise, the panel made its recommendations in chapter 4  of the report. The panel took due cognizance of the provisions of the extant rules on transfer, the schemes of service for the post, vacancy positions, candidates’ academic qualifications and their individual choices. “The candidate’s performance at both the written examination and the oral interview was considered, and a pass mark of 40 per cent was adopted.

“Consequently, the 52 were recommended for transfer to different cadres in the state civil service, having scored above the 40 per cent pass mark in the written and oral interview and also meeting other requirements for transfer”, Oghoro stated.

In a vote of thanks, the Director, Administration, Bureau of State Pension, Asaba, Mr. lfeanyi Osuya expressed his satisfaction and gratitude to the Commission for such a rare privilege to handle such an enormous assignment, which gave them a sense of fulfilment in determining the future of civil service in the state.
