DTHA Passes Human Trafficking Prohibition Bill

The third reading of the bi and ita subsequent passage came after the bill was subjected to intense legislative scrutiny at the committee of the Whole house during Wednesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor.

Following a motion by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by the member representing Ughelli North 2 state constituency, Hon. Spencer Owhofa, the house dissolved itself into the committee of the whole house to enable it consider the proposed amendments of Bill,

Motion for the passage of the 50 clause bill was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by the member representing Oshimili South Constituency, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu as it was unanimously adopted by the House following a voice vote called by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor.

Commending the lawmakers for their legislative ingenuity in the passage of the bill, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Emomotimi Guwor noted that with the human trafficking prohibition bill being passed by the house, the menace of all forms trafficking in persons would be tackled in the State.

Also at Plenary, the Chairman, House Committee on Special Bills, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi presented a by the joint committee on Energy on the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024.

The bill was thereafter deferred to November 12, 2024 for further legislative consideration.
