Delta Trad, Rulers Appeal For Urgent FG’s Action On Bad Roads

TRADITIONAL rulers in Delta State have lend their voices in the appeal to the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency fix all federal roads in the state which are in deplorable state.

The monarchs made the appeal in a five-point communique issued at the end of their meeting in Asaba.

The First Vice Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Pere of Akugbene Mien, Pere SP Luke Kalanama V111 who, presented the communique, decried the bad state of federal roads in Delta State, particularly the Warri – Sapele – Benin road, the Agbor- Abraka – Eku road, the Benin- Agbor – Asaba – Onitsha road and the East – West road.

The monarchs also urged the Delta state government to rehabilitate failed portions of state roads across the state to enable Deltans ply such roads seamlessly.

The First Vice Chairman of the Council, who presided over the meeting, listed such roads to include the Atuma – Otulu road, the Akwukwu Igbo – Illah – Ugbolu road and other state roads that are in bad state, adding that more infrastructural development projects should also be executed in riverine Ijawe communities of the state to boos the socio-economic well-being of the people..

The traditional rulers urged those leaving in flood-prone areas of the state, particularly coastal communities to relocate to upland as the water level was gradually rising to avoid being trapped by flood.

Pere SP Luke Kalanama V111 expressed concern over the security breach in Agbarho, which led to the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and urged the state government and security agencies to beef up security across the state to guarantee the continued protection of the lives of all Deltans and non Deltans resident in the state.  On the issue of drug abuse, the traditional rulers stressed the urgent need for the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to redouble their efforts at ridding the state of drugs by identifying black spots of drugs and apprehending dealers.

The monarchs bemoaned the harmful effects of drugs on youths and urged them to keep away from it, saying that drug menance had reached an alarming proportion in the society.   They encouraged Deltans, particularly the youths, to participate actively in the on-going recruitment in to the Nigerian Army and para military organizations to enable Delta State fill its quota in the recruitment exercises.  The monarchs expressed their total support to the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration and urged all Deltans to   continue to cooperate and support the policies and programmes of government.
