DKT International Donates N10 Million In Contraceptives To Delta, To Boost Family Planning Efforts

DELTA State has received a donation of intra­uterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs) valued at N10 million from DKT International, a major step toward enhancing reproductive health and family planning services for women across the region.

The contribution was formally announced by the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, during a training session on Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) for healthcare workers in Asaba.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Health Ministry, Dr. Philomena Okeowo, expressedthe Health Ministry’s gratitude to DKT International for their substantial support in advancing reproductive health services in Delta State.

Dr. Onojaeme emphasized the importance of family planning as a vital tool for promoting maternal and child health, reducing unintended pregnancies, and empowering women and families to make informed reproductive decisions.

“As we are gathered here, we are reminded of the critical role that family planning plays in promot­ing maternal and child health, reducing unintended pregnancies, and empowering women and families to make informed decisions about their reproductive health, the training being conducted, coupled with the provision of these vital commodities, will undoubtedly enhance the capacity of our healthcare providers to deliver quality services and contribute to the overall improvement of health outcomes in our state.” He said.

The Commercial Director of DKT International Nige­ria, Mr. Macaulay Gory, highlighted the organization’s efforts in training over 440 healthcare workers across 11 Nigerian states, equipping them with the skills needed to deliver effective family planning services. In Delta State, healthcare professionals from 40 primary health centers across 25 councils have been selected for this training.

Gory also urged women to plan their families ac­cording to their resources, emphasizing the impor­tance of providing each child with adequate care and support.
