The Delta State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), Mr. Alao Olusegun has said that the names of 53 Corps members have been forwarded to the NYSC headquarters for them to repeat their service year.
Mr Olusegun made this statement during the passing-out ceremony of Batch C Stream 2 Corps members in Asaba, the state capital.
He said that 53 corps members would repeat the service year, stressing that the names of those who have hit the absconding mark have been forwarded to directorate headquarters.
According to him, ‘’53 other cases who have hit the absconding mark have been forwarded to our National Directorate Headquarters for them to repeat their service year (28 males and 25 females)’’.
Meanwhile, 14 corps members, nine males and five females, who have been found wanting will be punished according to the bylaws of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) which attracts an extension between two weeks to three months.
He congratulated the corps members on their successful completion of the service year, adding that a total number of 2,431 Corps members, 1,015, males and 1,416 females, were passing out.
Speaking with some of the corps members during the ceremony, Uchechukwu Arthur expressed his gratitude to God, who made it possible for him to go through the period of the one-year mandatory service.
He advised those who Were still in service to keep their head high and be committed to their duty, adding that national youth service was something every Nigeria youth should experience,
Meanwhile, Dr. Vivian Ukamaka a Corps member, commended the state coordinator, Mr. Alao Olusegun for his support and efforts to see that their service year was a success.
She stressed that Mr Olusegun supported the corps members during their hard times and deserves to be awarded. ‘’God bless you, Sir, we the corps members are grateful’’ she added.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of an award to the NYSC State coordinator and, the presentation of the state coordinator’s certificate of commendation to five corps members who distinguished themselves by applying themselves selflessly in the cause of their national service.
