Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development and Head of the Committee on Youth Enlistment into the Military and Paramilitary Services, Barr ThankGod Trakiriowei has called on the youths in Oshimili South Local Government Area to join the ongoing military and paramilitary recruitment exercise.
Trakiriowei made the call during a courtesy visit to Oshimili South People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat, alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry/Committee Secretary, Dr. Ngozi Mogbolu, and other committee members.
The Commissioner revealed that for the past three years, indigenes of Oshimili South had not participated in the armed forces recruitment process, and as such, appealed to the leaders in the local government to mobilize them before the exercise elapses today.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Political and Security Services, Theophilus Aguonye, said the committee was formed at the instance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, as the state was in danger of being marginalized in the future if the youths do not embrace the call for enlistment into the armed forces.
He said the state was already lagging in the number of Deltans being recruited, hence, Governor Oborevwori had mandated the committee to speak to the different stakeholders to encourage their people to be part of the recruitment exercise.
Aguonye noted that the Oborevwori-led administration believes in employment of youths and sees the recruitment exercises as a veritable channel for them to be employed and make a worthwhile career in the armed forces. The PS mentioned that beyond the army recruitment, there was ongoing online registration into the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Police.
In his response, the Oshimili South PDP Chairman, Chief Chike Ifesiokwu lauded the Commissioner and assured that the leadership of the party would synergize with the committee to ensure the youths were enlisted even with the limited time available.
